An illustrated talk by Nastya Kovaliova with tastings, and craft activities suitable for all the family.
September 1915 saw the start of one of the greatest battles of the First World War – the Battle of Loos.
Jim Purfield enlisted in Hitchin in September 1914 and returned to his native Kent to join his local battalion. He kept a daily diary for the next year, and from this, his Battalion records and official war records, we tell the story of his year which included the decimation of his battalion at Loos
In this illustrated talk we follow the personal record of this young man, who, along with thousands of others, was drawn into the hell of that war.
Venue open at 6:30pm, talk starts at 7pm
An afternoon organised around the two books, Baldock Voices and Baldock Scrapbook, which were compiled from interviews with people in Baldock in the 1990s. A wealth of detail on Baldock going back almost a century, with readings and photographs.
