Over 80 local and national real ales, 40 ciders and a large selection of continental draught beers and lagers. All complemented by a seperate posecco, wine and Pinkster Gin bar and a wide range of hot, cold, vegatarian and barbecued food with plenty of sweets, soft drinks, ice cream and free activities, including fun games and challenges to entertain the children during Saturday and Sunday. Historical Walk to Clothall Church @ Meet at the corner of Limekiln Lane & South Road
May 4 @ 1:45 pm

The walk will follow the ancient Maltman’s Way, pointing out the historical landscape and touching on farming and the wool trade. It will finish in Clothall Church with its medieval ‘bird window’ and inscriptions. The walk is about 3½ miles and includes some steep ground and stiles; there is no shelter along the route. Not suitable for small children, buggies or dogs. Allow 2½ – 3 hours.

Meet at 1:45pm for a 2:00pm start

All proceeds will be donated to Clothall Church Restoration Appeal.

This walk also takes place on Sunday 12 May – please check time.

This event will be held by the “The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal”. It will be a ticket event only, tickets to be bought in advance and tickets are available on the door.

and The White Lion  ( and maybe Templars if numbers allow ) all
afternoon. There will be Irish Dancing from 4 pm up and down the venues …

The Gregynog Ensemble (Rob Hughes, Lesley Pearce, Robert Puzey, Austen Scully and Alison Eales) will present a programme of relaxing music featuring clarinet, solo cello and string quartet. Guest Player, Austen, from Sandy, Bedfordshire, will perform Bach’s Cello Suite No 6 which will be a great treat. This will be followed by Clarinet Quintets by hymn writer Sir Arthur Somervell and English composer Sir Arthur Bliss. Both pieces include some beautiful melodies. Refreshments will be served in the interval.

If you have ever fancied having a go at bell-ringing or wondered how it was done, this evening will give you the chance to find out. Access is fairly challenging—there are 44 worn steps in the spiral staircase, so appropriate footwear should be worn. No previous bell-ring experience is necessary.

Because the space is small, tickets are limited to 12. There is no charge but you must pick up a ticket from the Community Centre.

Evening Burn around the Greenway @ Meeting Point: The Orange Tree, Norton Road, Baldock

Ability level: Beginners welcome.
Baldock MTB will provide guided tours of the Greenway showing cyclists new to the route a number of exciting areas just off the beaten track to test your riding skills. Starting at the Orange Tree, Norton Road, Baldock at 19:00 riders will be guided around the Greenway being given opportunities to explore some interesting alternative routes, picking up tips and tricks from experienced mountain bikers. Riders will finish back at the Orange Tree between 20:00 and 21:30 (dependent upon experience) having covered approx. 15 miles. This event is suitable for all riders aged 13 and over (Children under 16 years must be supervised by a cycling adult). All riders must wear cycling helmets and are responsible for providing their own cycles in good working order. Depending on finish times and detours taken lights may be required towards the end of the ride (and to get home after being refreshed).

Advanced Mountain Bike Training @ Meeting point: The Orange Tree, Norton Road, Baldock

Ability Level: A fair level of fitness, those looking to improve their off-road ability and learn some routes.
Baldock MTB will provide a guided ride, tuition and tips and tricks to both improve your skills and your confidence when mountain biking. Starting at the Orange Tree, Norton Road, Baldock at 09:00 riders will be guided around local cycling routes, off the beaten track, being given opportunities to explore some interesting off-road routes, picking up tips and tricks from experienced mountain bikers. The distance covered during the session will be approx. 20-25 miles. Riders will finish back at the Orange Tree between 12 and 1pm (dependent upon experience and speed). This event is suitable for riders aged 13 and over (Children under 16 years must be supervised by a cycling adult and capable of the distance).

Baldock Community Orchestra presents, Festival Favourites! Bizet to Beatles, Sousa to Skyfall.

The BCO was formed just over three and a half years ago. The brainchild of two local professional musicians Catherine Wilmer and Rachel Thomas. Rachel is the current Musical Director.

The BCO ethos is to promote a wide repertoire of music to as many people as possible. It provides a unique opportunity for young people and anyone wishing to return to playing to play in an Orchestra again. The players come from Baldock and the surrounding area. Since its formation the Orchestra has been based in Baldock.

It rehearses Thursday nights (term time) Please see Facebook for more details.

During its short existence the Orchestra has performed in several Baldock locations, The Heritage centre, Orange Tree pub, St John’s School and tonight’s venue the URC church. It has supported several Baldock events, playing at the Beer Festival and Christmas Fair. Other concerts have been given in Hinxworth, Letchworth. Christmas time a small ensemble from the Orchestra played at two local residential homes.

Local teacher and musician, Mike O’Neill, leads his big band, a community ensemble of players from the area, in a vibrant programme of swing and jazz. All proceeds go towards the next phase of the church restoration.

The Baldock Street fair is one of the must attend days in the Calendar, with stalls and free shows down the high street and around town.

Fifty craft and local charity stalls

The Baldock Street Fair Highlights:

  • Tricky Micky’ will be giving five 30-minute performances which will include a Punch and Judy show, Magic Show and Ronnie Rabbit Puppet.
  • The Medieval Combat Society – will be setting up camp in the High Street to entertain and to teach about the history of 14th century England in the time of King Edward III.  There will be combat and dance displays during the day but do visit their encampment find out more information about their weapons, armour and lifestyle.
  • The Animal Experience Zoo – Visit the community centre to see The Animal Experience (a small licensed zoo) with a wide variety of exotic animals, many of which are unwanted pets and rescue animals.  Expect to see and meet their marvellous meekats, snakes including a python and milkshake, lizards including a bearded dragon, blue tongue skink and mini beasts.  The animal keepers will be on hand to answer your questions and offer you the opportunity to touch or hold many of their animals.
  • Fairground rides. James Harris will again be bringing his fairground rides to delight the children.
  • School Choirs will perform during the day. There will also be traditional maypole dancing from Hartsfield School.
  • Zumba display in the arena.
  • Morris dancers
