This year’s 11th Baldock Independent Beer Festival will bring live music on Friday evening, all day Saturday and until close at 8.00pm on Sunday. We will have 90 local and national real ales, 40 ciders and a large selection of Continental draught beers and lagers. You will also find a wide range of hot, cold, vegetarian and barbecued food, plenty of sweets, soft drinks, ice cream and free activities including some fun games and challenges to entertain the children during the day. Any surplus made during this event will be used to support good causes within the local area (see website for details).

Sunday Lunch @ Baldock Community Centre

Join us for a Carvery style Sunday Lunch, dessert, cheese and biscuits. Price also includes a glass of Prosecco or fruit juice. The bar will be open.

A well-illustrated display about garages, cars and the open road in the heyday of motoring. Visitors will also have the opportunity to look through albums of old photographs of Baldock.

 

The Historic Back Lanes of Baldock @ Meet outside Community Centre, Simpson Drive, 2.15pm for 2.30 start

Jane Havercroft will take you on a 2 hour, 1.5 mile stroll around the back lanes and footpaths in the town centre to discover their history. All on tarmac so accessible to most mobility scooters; possibly too much traffic for small children and dogs. This popular walk was sold out last year so it has been decided to repeat it to give those who missed it a chance to take part this year.

The event is for the ROYAL BRITISH LEGION Poppy appeal. It will be a ticket event only, tickets to be bought in advance.  Last day to buy tickets is Friday 4th May.
Come and join us for an afternoon of 60’s songs.

This year sees the 9th holding of the Baldock Fleadh (or Irish Festival) now a fixture on many a trad musicians calendar It will start at the tale end of the BALDOCK BEER FESTIVAL in the beer tent with a drink up session between 3/5 pm on Sunday afternoon The welcome session follows  at 8.00pm at Templars in the high street  ( special rates for musicians staying that night )

Monday. The Fleadh (festival) day will start at noon with musicians
gathering at The Boot for vouchers , and continuing at The Cock, The Boot
and The White Lion  ( and maybe Templars if numbers allow ) all
afternoon. There will be Irish Dancing from 4 pm up and down the venues …
listen for the tapping feet !

Gregynog Ensemble @ United Reformed Church, Whitehorse Street, SG7 6QQ

The programme will include the Clarinet Quintet by the renowned film composer Richard Rodney Bennett (who died in 2017) and a cheerful Classical Style Quartet by Crusell. There will also be music by Schubert. Players: Rob Hughes and Lesley Pearce violins, Heather Birt viola, Lucinda Wright cello and Alison Eales clarinet.

Refreshments will be served in the interval.

Formed by Ray & Ian, former members of Maxwell, Hammer & Smith and joined by the fantastic vocals and exceptional keyboard skills of miss Lily Norman, the rhythm section is completed with the bass playing from Mark Stier. The band cover songs from the sixties right up to date. As with the MHS band, Joyrider have 3 vocalists: 2 male and 1 female and specialize in tight 3 part and 4 part harmony which gives the band a big full sound –

Open Evening in the Tower @ St. Marys Church, Hitchin Street, SG7 5AE

St Mary’s Church Tower. 7.30-9.00pm. Meeting by Peter’s Door at the foot of the tower to the left of the main door.

If you have ever fancied having a go at bell-ringing or wondered how it was done, this evening will give you the chance to find out. Access is fairly challenging—there are 44 worn steps in the spiral staircase, so appropriate footwear should be worn. No previous bell-ring experience is necessary.

Because the space is small, tickets are limited to 12. There is no charge but you must pick up a ticket from the Community Centre.

The Mobb @ St Marys Church, Hitchin Street, SG7 5AE

Mike O’Neill, who taught piano and jazz at Knights Templar School for more than 20 years, leads his big band, ‘The Mobb’, an ensemble of local players, in a programme of swing and jazz, featuring music from the movies.

Do come and join us and help us to raise funds for the next phase of the restoration. Pay bar and complimentary canapes.

Children must be over eight years of age and, if under 16 years, must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Sensible footwear must be worn. All proceeds to Church Restoration Funds. The main area of the church will also be open for free for people to look round.
