Baldock Irish Festival – Skimmington Ride @ The Cock
May 2 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Baldock Irish Festival will run over Saturday and Sunday this year due to the Bank Holiday change.

It starts with the magnificent local band Skimmington Ride and Friends in the beer garden at The Cock. It then moves on to Templars for The Gathering (see the later event).

Baldock Irish Festival – The Fleadh Cheoil @ Baldock High Street, SG7 6AX
May 3 @ 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Today the musicians recreate the atmosphere of a small Irish Town Fleadh Cheoil (Music Festival). There will be three sessions running concurrently at The Cock, Templar’s and The White Lion.

Irish Dancers will dance their way in and between the three venues from 3.30pm.

Come on down and experience the fun for free.

Baldock Folk Club – A Singing Tour of Baldock @ Start at The Cock
May 6 @ 7:15 pm – 10:00 pm

Join local historian Jane Havercroft and Baldock Balladeer Brian Burke for a musical and historical walk down Baldock High Street and onwards.

Meet at The Cock at 7pm, and there will follow a Baldock ramble stopping at various local landmarks, where Jane will tell her tales and Brian will sing his ballads.

The evening will continue at The Orange Tree, for further songs, tales and refreshments.

Free entry, donations please to the Baldock Folk Club. Please be ready to leave The Cock at 7.15.

Baldock Classic Car Show @ Baldock High Street, SG7 6AX
May 17 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

The ever growing Baldock Classic Car Show will once again be part of Baldock Festival and is open to any vehicle over the age of 20 years old and ‘interesting’ newer vehicles are also welcome. As usual we will have prizes on offer awarded by our expert judges for best in class. We will have a BBQ with quality burgers and bacon sandwiches for the early birds run by the scouts, a Cider Bar run by Apple Cottage, a Coffee Truck will be available along with teas and coffees in the Baldock Arts & Heritage Centre, a cake stall run by the Brownies/Guides and live music from 12:00. All the proceeds from this event will be going to charity so please if you are just spectating please donate some money to the charity boxes as all the team are working for free.

  • Classic Bikes and Commercials welcome
  • Parking Starts from 10:00 and the runs from 11:00-16:00
  • Brown and Gammons will opening their doors for you to take a look around
  • Entry price for displaying a vehicle will be a minimum of a £3.00 donation per vehicle and is payable upon your arrival
  • It is possible to register in advance and make sure there is space for you in the pre-registered area. Just email us and let us know:

    • Car make/model
    • Year of manufacture
    • Registration number.

    You can book spaces for groups too. We will need a primary contact, club/group name and the number of vehicles (preferably details of each one if possible).

Cricket Match @ Avenue Park, West Avenue, SG7 5AY

A nail-biting match will be played between Baldock Cricket Club and the Orange Tree All Stars (plus special guests), with coaching available at the nets if you want to give batting or bowling a try.

This is a display looking at the town in the aftermath of the Great War, the Peace Parade, the returning servicemen etc. Museum open: Fridays and Saturdays 11.00am-3.00pm; Sundays 2-4.00pm

Meet 2.15 for 2.30 pm start: instructions for meeting venue will be on the tickets.
This walk will follow part of the course of the old road to London and nearby, detailing the works relating to the construction of the cutting undertaken by the Turnpike in 1828 and other points of interest. The walk is about 2 miles with a steep hill. Not suitable for young children, buggies or dogs. Allow 2½ hours

PICK n MIX @ The Hen and Chickens @ The Hen & Chickens, South Rd, SG7 6BZ

Pick n Mix are a 5 piece party Band and perform classic disco, funk and Pop songs covering 70s, 80s 90s and the odd modern surprise. This is a band you will have to get up and dance to!

Hymns & Desserts, hosted by Pam Rhodes of BBC Television’s ‘Songs of Praise’ @ St. Marys Church, Hitchin Street, SG7 5AE

A selection of favourite hymns will be sung from 6pm at St Mary’s Church, under the direction Pam Rhodes of BBC Television’s ‘Songs of Praise’ fame.

The choir and congregation will be accompanied by a visiting organist before a variety of desserts are served.

Ticket price includes a choice of puddings.

This is a walk and talk around Baldock which will identify some of the less common trees and also selected planting schemes in the Town. The walk will be led by Mick LaRoche: a retired local authority tree officer. Sensible footwear is recommended as not all areas are paved. The walk will last about one and a half hours and finish in the High Street or St Mary’s Churchyard.

Time to dig out that old School Tie and head down to The Orange Tree for a night of classic songs to take you back to your school years.

Raffle with typically 80s prizes, so bring your tuck shop money – funds raised to go to the Herts & Essex Air Ambulance. Fancy Dress mandatory, otherwise detention will be given. Sixth-Formers and older only.

The management of The Orange Tree ask that you please don’t hang around in Big Park drinking 20/20 and White Lightning before you arrive, or they will tell your parents.
